"Vox Monstro" (RAF) 7/12/2006
( Morannon Mescalero x Hearth's Bailey)
2006 Dark Bay Gelding, heart shaped star. Black
points. Currently 14.2hh We expect Maska to be
15.1hh or larger. He has excellent bone and
substance with wonderful lofty suspension. He will
excel as a Hunter or in the Sport Horse disciplines.
His dam is an excellent jumper and fluid dressage
mover. His deep hip and wonderful laid back
shoulder give him that rocking horse canter we all
love. He is handled daily and is a very playful and
people oriented fellow. He does everything a long
yearling is expected to know. Halters, leads, loads,
ties, grooms, clips, bathes. Turns out with anyone.
Maska has grown up for the most part out side
24/7, but loves his stall when inside. He is an easy
keeper and is growing nicely on hay, pasture and
small supplement of grain and minerals.
Maska has always grown in proportion, never
really rump high, always balanced.
We call him "Mas-ka" it is Mescalero/Native
American for "Strong"
$2,000/ Firm
All of these pictures were taken 5/17/08
We'd really like to see Maska in the Morgan
Hunter ring, or perhaps as a Western
pleasure mount. He is relaxed but will gear it
up if you ask him too.
This short clip hosted by Google video is
of Maska after we made him move around
quite a bit for the DVD and he was still
pretty up. It shows what kind of mind he
has and how he deals with something he
perceived as "scary". We teach our young
horses to "touch it" if they are curious or
nervous, of course we touch it first, and it
becomes a game that leads to trust. You'll
see that Carmen shows him it is nothing to
fear, even when he curls to scoot away he
doesn't leave and stays with her, she is
quietly persistent and then walks away.
You'll see his desire to follow, which he did
even though I stopped filming.
You'll also notice he's good around Dogs!
We decided to start Maska's "formal" training today
7/17/08 now that he has turned two. This was his first
time wearing a bridle and walking around with the
bareback pad. He loved the bit in his mouth and packed
it within an hour. He's worn the pad quite a few times in
his stall. This was also the first time he wore a saddle on
his back. He loved every minute of it and never balked at
a thing. We took him up to the arena and walked him
over the jumps, which we really enjoyed. It was a day of
many firsts for him and he is ready to keep going.
Maska's price will increase in August once I start riding
him on the trails. With such a great attitude, he's going
to be a fun easy horse to train.
